A group of dedicated Clúid residents from Marewood Court Sheltered housing development, Sillogue Road, Ballymun in Dublin 11 met twice a week throughout May and June covering practical gardening and theory. Vegetables & herbs that have been grown from seed have been planted in the raised beds. There are also containers and hanging baskets with herbs, tomatoes, strawberries and flowering plants for resident’s balconies. In addition there is an insect habitat box; bird feeders, a bird box and a home composting bin installed in the internal courtyard with the residents now bring their organic kitchen waste to the compost bin.
“The Marewood residents have been an inspiration to work with and these garden activities have helped foster a real sense of communal spirit amongst the residents. They are in the process of entering into the tidy town competition for "best kept area". I commend Clúid housing for providing such fantastic accommodation; all the residents I have worked with are delighted and really happy with their accommodation and the supportive community living in Marewood Court.” Máire Hurley, Global Action Plan.
