Marewood Court in the heart of Ballymun is a state of the art development comprising a block of 41 apartments and two houses. Although the apartments were designated as sheltered accommodation for older people, the development consists of varying age groups.
There are supports in place which enable many residents to have peace of mind and to live independently. These include a monitored fire alarm, emergency call system and a part time scheme warden.
There is a beautiful community room in Marewood Court which the residents and groups in the wider community make use of. One of the recent initiatives is a monthly coffee morning where the Community Gardaí holds a drop in service. There is also a fully equipped catering kitchen for which Clúid is seeking a new anchor tenant, having unfortunately had a meals on wheels service recently vacate it due to funding restrictions.
The community spirit in Marewood Court is evident in the fabulous display of colour that the gardeners have again created this year. Last year they won the Tidy Towns Competition and the results for this year are due soon.
Throughout the year, many courses run including gardening and painting. Most of these have been VEC funded. Clúid received lottery funding for social activities in sheltered housing this year and the residents in Marewood recently enjoyed a subsidised outing to the National Stud and Japanese Gardens.
The Scheme Warden in this estate is employed by FAS and is on site every morning. The Housing Officer visits the scheme every week. There is also a part-time FAS employed caretaker who assists the residents in keeping their scheme looking great.
