Clúid Housing’s, Eibhlin O’Connor took home the top accolade at the national Irish Building and Design Awards 2017 last week. She was acknowledged as Building and Design Woman of the Year.
Eibhlin is Head of Delivery and has worked with Clúid since 2011. She is responsible for the delivery of an ambitious pipeline of social housing projects. Clúid’s CEO, Brian O’Gorman said: “Eibhlín has been instrumental in developing this new build programme and ensuring that all new housing units are of high quality design. I’m delighted that she has been recognised for this. As a key member of the largest social housing provider in the state, she has made a huge contribution to raising the standards in social housing design and delivery and bringing a high standard of professionalism to the sector.”
He added: “She is the consummate professional Architect; an expert at understanding a brief. She is always mindful of the end user and how a well-designed building can enhance lives. She protects the interests of our organisation while keeping faith with her architectural principles. Tough and tenacious, she is someone you can turn to when situations need rescuing. She is behind many of the successes here at Clúid.”
Eibhlin is responsible for setting Clúid’s design standards. She manages the procurement, contract administration and overall compliance of Clúid’s construction programme. She has extensive design and project management experience within the construction industry.
Mr. O’Gorman said: “The standard of our homes is what we should expect of good, quality housing. Our aim is to create ‘ordinary’ housing which is indistinguishable from any other housing. We are then able to counteract the challenges that commonly arise around social housing. Eibhlin plays a very meaningful role in making this happen.”
In 2016, Eibhlin produced Clúid’s Design Guide, an important document which seeks to improve the standard of social housing through quality of design and specification. Eibhlín has also driven the development of a new suite of procurement documents and legal agreements which allow Clúid to offer stage payments to developers. This has opened up a whole new line of supply in the housing sector.
A delighted Ms. O’Connor said: “I am very honoured to accept this award, particularly in my capacity within the social housing sector. Clúid expects and delivers an exceptionally high standard of housing. I am proud to play a part on this team of housing experts. As an Architect the best part of my job is seeing the finished product. Time and time again it is one I can say I am extremely proud of.”
Clúid Housing is the largest housing association in Ireland, delivering almost 6,000 high quality, affordable homes to people in housing need all over Ireland. Housing associations are independent, not-for-profit charities.
Clúid hopes to deliver a further 2,500 new homes in the next three years and is keen to partner with local authorities, developers, state agencies and financial institutions to make this happen.
