Minister for Housing visits site of 88 new social homes under construction in Limerick City
Yesterday Minister for Housing James Browne, alongside Mayor of Limerick, John Moran, and of Limerick City and County Council, visited 88 social homes under construction in Green Park, Limerick City. The homes are being delivered by Clúid, Ireland’s leading Approved Housing Body (AHB).
The 88 homes will provide secure, long-term, affordable homes for individuals and families on the Limerick City and County Council housing list. The new homes are a mix of 1- and 2-bedroom apartments, across two blocks. Construction started in September 2025, and the homes are due to be completed in spring 2027, when the first residents will get their keys.
Clúid already has 368 homes in Limerick. In addition to the homes in Green Park, Clúid also has 17 homes under construction in Turagh Close, Cappamore, and 44 homes in Amharc Abhann, Knockhill, due to be completed later this year, and 36 homes under construction in Speaker’s Corner, that are also due to be delivered in spring 2027. These homes will be a mix of Cost Rental, general needs social homes, and age-friendly social homes.
Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne commented: “It’s wonderful to be here in Limerick to see work underway on these much-needed social homes. With the support of funding from my Department, these one- and two-bed apartments will provide affordable, long-term comfort and security to individuals and families who need them.
“As we tackle this housing crisis, it is crucial that we provide a mix of housing options that can provide secure, long-term homes to everyone, regardless of their specific needs or situation.
“I would like to commend Clúid and Limerick City and County Council for bringing this project to life, and I think it highlights once again the importance of close collaboration between both national and local government and the Approved Housing Bodies working on the ground.”
Minister of State for Older People and Housing Kieran O’Donnell commented: “I welcome the delivery of these high-quality social homes here at Green Park, which will include housing for older people.
“One of the overall aims of the Government’s Housing Action Plan, ‘Delivering Homes, Building Communities’, is to increase the delivery of more suitable homes and choice for older people, supporting them to age in place, in their own homes and communities, with dignity and independence.
“I wish to acknowledge the work of Clúid and Limerick City and County Council, with support from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, on this housing project, which is not simply bricks and mortar, but a place residents can call home.”
John Moran, Mayor of Limerick, remarked: “These new homes at Greenpark represent another important step in meeting Limerick’s growing housing needs and providing high-quality homes for individuals and families. We are continuing to push hard for housing delivery across Limerick, pulling every lever we can with Government, Approved Housing Bodies such as Clúid and other mechanisms. We know it is going to take time, but I as Mayor am committed to ensuring more people have access to affordable, sustainable communities where they can build their futures.”

Deputising for the Príomh Chomhairleoir, Cathaoirleach of the Metropolitan District of Limerick, Cllr Joe Pond said: “It is very encouraging to see the progress at the Green Park scheme, as every new home delivered makes a real difference to individuals and families in our communities. This represents a significant investment in Limerick’s future and demonstrates what can be achieved through strong collaboration between the Council and approved housing bodies like Clúid.”
Dr Pat Daly, Director General of Limerick City and County Council added: “We are delighted to partner with Clúid in delivering these new homes at Green Park, a key strategic site on the edge of the city. This development, and the second Clúid project at Speaker’s Corner, reflect the Council’s commitment to providing high-quality housing that meets the diverse needs of our communities, ensuring people at different stages of life and from a range of backgrounds have access to secure and sustainable homes.”
The homes are being developed as part of Clúid’s sector-leading Developer Design and Build programme. The developer is Voyage Property Ltd., and the main contractor is Conack. The homes will be delivered in partnership with Limerick City and County Council, and with the support of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, The Housing Agency and the Housing Finance Agency.
