Carrigtwohill – Cork

Partner: Cork County Council
Type of project: Construction within a 79 acre state-of-the-art, predominantly private development
Location: Carrigtwohill, County Cork
Interesting fact: The social housing units have not reduced the value of the development and in fact have contributed positively to this beautiful community

At the entrance of a newly built 79 acre state-of-the-art private and business development, Clúid and Cork County Council spotted an opportunity to locate a housing scheme for older people. Clúid convinced BAM Property Development and Gable Holdings of a partnership and, with the support of Cork County Council, received government funding to finance the scheme. Within a year, BAM Property Development and Gable Holdings completed the apartment complex. Today the 33 units, occupied by people from Cork County Council housing waiting list, maintain their positive reputation and continue to contribute positively to the rest of this impressive estate. It is an example of how well managed social housing can be incorporated very effectively into mixed communities.
