Clúid Financial Exclusion Research
27th Jul, 2020
Each year, Clúid commissions a body of research into the issues faced by our communities, as well as others in the social housing sector. In the past, this research has covered topics like housing for older people, the regeneration of areas, and fuel poverty. This year, Clúid is working with the Housing Finance Agency (HFA) and a group of researchers from University College Cork (UCC) to look at access to, and use of, financial services by Clúid residents.
The level of exclusion from financial services in Ireland is quite high, which is concerning. We feel it is important that a wide range of financial services options are available to people. It is a form of inequality and can result in people having to use alternative services, which can be seen as the easiest and quickest solution, but which are often extremely expensive.
In order to research this topic, we will be inviting Clúid residents in a selection of estates in the Dublin and Cork areas to participate in a survey on this issue. We will be emailing and texting these residents with the survey link in the coming days and weeks.
We look forward to hearing the valuable views and insights of Clúid residents on this important topic.
