A New Beginning
Dorothy is one of our newest residents and here she tells us what it was like to get the keys to her new home.
The relief of getting my own home was immense. It felt like a welcome sanctuary to replenish the family, the walls were like arms wrapped around us. It was a life line… well 4 life lines & it was life changing!
Home became about belonging and setting down roots in the community. The gratitude I felt led me to community involvement and social inclusion volunteering. I’ve made lifelong friendships with people from every continent, every background. I’ve come to believe that homes are valuable because of the people who live in them. Their true worth is in people participating to enhance their community and each other.
It takes time to transition from survival mode to step forward and get involved. My neighbourhood is worth my contribution. So now my home is a story of resilience, love and hope. It’s a place of great hope!
Dorothy recently received a Stepping Stones bursary award to return to education and training. She was interested in learning about the art of spinning so decided to apply for a course. Dorothy is now the proud owner of a spinning wheel to develop her skills and experience of the craft.
