Simple Ways to Save Energy This Winter
We know the cost of living is putting pressure on many of us. Below are a few easy things you can do right now to cut costs and help the planet at the same time.
Switch energy providers
If your contract is up, switching could save you hundreds of euro every year. Check out switcher.ie or bonkers.ie for the best deals.
Lights and kettles
Turn off lights when you leave a room and only boil the water you need for your cuppa. Small changes add up.
Cut waste
Less packaging means less rubbish (and lower bills). Make a shopping list and stick to it – households in Ireland throw away about €700 worth of food every year!
Heating tips
Got a heat pump? Keep it at a steady temperature – it’s cheaper than turning it on and off. With traditional heating, turn your thermostat down by 1°C (ideal is 20°C) and lower it to 15–16°C at night.
If you have an EnergyCloud device, please do not switch it off. Leaving on the device does not use electricity and, if you turn it off, you won’t avail of FREE hot water when it’s available.
Turn things off
Leaving appliances on standby wastes energy. Your TV alone uses about 30% of its electricity this way! Switch them off completely.
