ICSH public choice awards – St. Mary’s Mansions regeneration

St. Mary`s Mansions

We are thrilled to announce that Clúid’s regeneration of St. Mary`s Mansions has been shortlisted for the ICSH Allianz Community Housing public choice awards.

The original St. Mary`s Mansions complex in Dublin’s North East Inner City had a deep sense of community at its core, neighbours supported each other in all aspects of life, through good and bad.

The area faced significant social issues over the years. The 2016 Mulvey report identified the need to make the area a safe, attractive and vibrant living and working environment with opportunities for all to lead full lives.

The €23m redevelopment of St. Mary’s Mansions flat complex has provided eighty secure, high-quality, sustainable homes for over 200 local people. Twenty families returned to St. Mary’s Mansions and the remaining homes were allocated to local people from Dublin City Council’s housing list.

The returning families worked together with Clúid, incorporating their input into the redesign. They requested the courtyard would be enclosed to provide a sanctuary for play and conversation while the plaza would remain open for the enjoyment of the entire community.

The development also saw the creation of play areas, a community room, socially aware landscaping and a central courtyard to help build upon the already existing community spirit.

The project is the result of a 3-year redevelopment plan and Clúid worked in partnership with local community groups, Dublin’s North East Inner City (NEIC) and Inner-City Organisations Network (ICON).

St. Mary’s Mansions is a flagship regeneration and is seen as a catalyst for the regeneration of Dublin city’s historic city centre.
