National Register to Vote Day – 30 April

18th Mar, 2026

Make Sure Your Voice Is Heard
On 30 April, we mark National Register to Vote Day, a reminder to everyone living in Ireland to check that they are registered to vote and that their details are up to date.
Being on the electoral register ensures you can take part in local, general and European elections, as well as referendums.
Whether you’ve recently moved home, changed your name, become an Irish citizen, or are voting for the first time, it’s important to confirm your details are correct.

Why Registering Matters
Voting is one of the most direct ways people can influence decisions that affect their daily lives, from housing and local services to national policy.
Research shows that people living in apartment developments and social housing can sometimes experience fewer opportunities for direct engagement with elected representatives. Ensuring you are registered to vote is an important first step in making sure your voice can be heard.
Democratic participation strengthens communities. When more people engage, local issues receive greater attention and communities are better represented in decision-making processes.

Who Can Vote?
You may be eligible to vote depending on your citizenship:
• Irish citizens can vote in all elections and referendums.
• EU citizens can vote in European and local elections.
• UK citizens can vote in general and local elections.
• Non-EU citizens can vote in local elections.
If you are unsure, it is worth checking your eligibility.

How to Check or Update Your Details
You can check the register or update your information online at:
www.checktheregister.ie
The process is simple and only takes a few minutes.
You will need your PPS number and Eircode to complete the process.

Recently Moved?
If you have recently moved address, you must update your registration to ensure you are listed at your current address. Being registered at the correct address is essential to be able to vote locally.

Supporting Democratic Engagement
As a housing provider, Clúid is committed to supporting resident participation and access to information. Encouraging voter registration is part of supporting inclusive communities and ensuring residents have equal access to democratic processes.
Engagement is always voluntary. Registering to vote does not oblige anyone to vote or to support any particular party or candidate, it simply ensures you have the option to take part when you choose.
