Simon Brooke Award 2024 – call for submissions

The Simon Brooke Award, presented by Clúid Housing, recognises excellence in the areas of housing policy and practice, which contribute to our vision of a society where everyone has a great place to live.

The late Simon Brooke, in whose honour the Simon Brooke Award was created, was Head of Policy with Clúid. Up until his untimely death in November 2019, Simon worked tirelessly to break the stigmas attached to social housing and to ensure that everyone in Ireland had a great place to live. Simon’s willingness to challenge the status quo advocating for policy change to improve people’s lives and his drive to collaborate and share knowledge, has shaped the social housing sector for the better. These are the qualities that led to the creation of the Simon Brooke Award and lecture.

It is on this basis that we are calling for submissions on the topic of independence and accessibility in housing for disabled people. The award will be presented at the Simon Brooke Lecture, at which the winner will have the opportunity to present on their entry.

Application Criteria
The Simon Brooke Award is open to individuals and organisations that have led projects and initiatives which have contributed or are significantly contributing to enhancing accessibility and independence in housing for people with disabilities. Entries should refer to work with elements commenced in 2023/2024. This can include new aspects introduced as part of existing work.

Applicants are invited to submit their work for consideration, based on the following criteria:
- Innovation: How does the entry demonstrate innovative approaches to improving accessibility and independence in housing for people with disabilities?
– Impact: What measurable impact has the entry had on enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities in term of their housing?
- Sustainability: Is the project sustainable in its efforts to promote accessibility and independence in the long term?
- Collaboration: To what extent does the project collaborate with relevant stakeholders (e.g., community organisations, individuals with disabilities) to achieve its goals?
- Scalability: Can the strategies, practices, or solutions implemented by the project be replicated or scaled up to benefit a wider population?
